Training
This result involves utilising the “FERTILE” training materials to train academic tutors, pre-service teachers, and in-service teachers to design and implement Artfull ER projects with their students.
The “FERTILE” training aims to:
- Trigger educators to integrate the “FERTILE” methodology in their educational practice by applying an experiential approach, allowing them to have a learning experience that is relevant to their students.
- Promote the importance of the “teacher as designer” role in educational practice and trigger educators to build on the current practice and experience and extend it in an interdisciplinary context.
- Stimulate the creation and sustainability of an educator community around the “FERTILE” community platform. Members of this community are anticipated to have a design-thinking mindset around Artful ER projects that will be maintained throughout the community after implementing the project.
Tasks and Milestones
To deliver the “FERTILE” training, the consortium organised two tasks:
Task 4.1 included the organisation, implementation and evaluation of pilot studies involving more than 70 participants (academic tutors, pre & in-service teachers) to get feedback on training outcomes, structure and content.
The milestone 4.1 accomplished was the “Evaluation report of the “FERTILE” training in the pilot studies” available to the consortium, the EU Commission and upon request to fertile-project@uniwa.gr
Task 4.2 included the organisation, implementation, and evaluation of training events for about 200 educators in total, implemented by project partners in their countries. These training events were realised based on the organisation suggested above, which was adapted to the particular partner context.
A suggested organisation of such a training event includes four (4) training modules lasting 20 hours and delivered in a blended context as follows:
- Module 1: Elaborating on Robotics as an educational tool for cultivating computational thinking: project-based & collaborative learning, computational thinking skills linking ER with Arts, and ER technologies for various educational levels. (Delivery Mode: 3 hours f2f)
- Module 2: Supporting educators interweave ER with Arts through the “FERTILE” design methodology. How audiovisual arts (animation, filmmaking, painting), performing arts (dance, theatre, music) or literacy arts (poetry, drama, prose, fiction) may trigger designing Artful ER artefacts for cultivating CT. (Delivery Mode: 3 hours f2f & 2 hours asynchronously)
- Module 3: Scaffolding blending f2f with online experience through ER simulators. Utilising the “FERTILE” Community Platform to design Artful ER projects (Delivery mode: 3 hours online synchronously & 1 hour asynchronously)
- Module 4: Development of Artful ER projects based on the “FERTILE” design methodology in the community platform. Peer review of projects developed according to specific evaluation criteria. (Delivery Mode: 3 hours online asynchronously & 2 hours synchronously).
